
The District Jail and Jail Training Academy, Karnal, jointly observed World Blood Donor Day on Friday under the theme “Every Drop Counts, Every Donor Matters,” under the guidance of Director General of Prisons, Haryana, Alok Mittal.
To mark the occasion, a voluntary blood donation camp was organised on the premises of the Jail Training Academy. The camp witnessed an enthusiastic response from volunteers, with a total of 94 participants donating blood. These included 43 trainees of the Jail Training Academy, as well as 51 staff members of the District Jail and employees of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Madhuban.
Civil Surgeon Dr Poonam Choudhary and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Simmi Kapoor visited the camp and appreciated the efforts of the organisers and volunteers who came forward for the noble cause. Dr Sanjay Verma, Blood Bank in-charge, coordinated the blood collection process during the camp. Health officials highlighted the importance of regular blood donation in meeting the increasing demand for blood in hospitals and emergency situations.
Lakhbir Singh, Superintendent, District Jail, Karnal, donated blood and motivated officers, officials, trainees and staff members to actively participate in such humanitarian initiatives. He said blood donation is one of the noblest acts of service to humanity and can help save countless lives.
Addressing the participants, Harinder, Principal-cum-Superintendent of the Jail Training Academy, said that World Blood Donor Day is observed globally to raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank voluntary, unpaid donors for their life-saving contributions. He said the camp was organised to promote voluntary blood donation and encourage a culture of compassion, community service and social welfare. He further added that such camps would continue to be organised regularly and the jail administration remains committed to supporting humanitarian initiatives.
