Kota Kinabalu: Upko President Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has questioned whether the Federal Government's proposed identity cards for long-staying foreigners in Sabah are the same idea as Warisan's scrapped Sabah Temporary Pass or PSS.
Tangau (pictured), in a statement, said the Home Minister and Sabah Chief Minister must explain whether the intention and working are the same.
"The Chief Minister a few days ago said that under the measure announced by the Home Minister last week, the government wants to issue a foreigner card," he said.
"Therefore, if the suggestions and proposals came from the same government agencies who had proposed PSS before, it would most likely be the same proposal now albeit with a different name.
"Upko hopes the government does not play with confusing names such as that the intention of these newly proposed cards is not to give illegal immigrants documents or that to give them citizenship because the PSS then was never intended to have that effect as well."
