
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino world pool champions Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno seek for quarterfinal berths at the WPA Women’s 10-Ball World Championship in Rome, Italy on Tuesday.
Amit faces Japanese Hiraguchi at 4 p.m. while the defending champ Centeno takes on American Savannah Easton at the same time.
Amit staved off elimination and made it to the last 16 after a 4-0, 4-2 win over Argentine Ayala Soledad in the losers qualification on Monday, going 3-1 overall in the double elimination stages.
Centeno's path was harder as she incurred a loss in the second round, falling to Amit after an opening win over Chinese Fu Xiaofang.
After losing to Amit and getting relegated to the losers side early, Centeno won three in a row capped by a 4-2, 4-1 win over German Pia Filler on Monday.
Centeno went 4-1 overall in the double elimination round.
Amit and Centeno, meanwhile, bowed out in the Women's Double Master Showdown, yielding to the Japanese duo of Yuki Hiraguchi and Chihiro Kawahara in a quarterfinal spot-shot penalty shootout, 3-1, 2-3, 2-2, 2-3.
