Following an incident wherein a rifle was snatched from a Punjab Armed Police (PAP) jawan, the police have issued an advisory over potential risk to life and property of personnel.

Police personnel were advised not to travel alone or without a weapon. The advisory was issued through video conference with rank and file of the department.

The incident happened at Harike Pattan in Tarn Taran

According to officials aware of the developments, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav (DGP) advised senior functionaries to ensure employees take preventive and proactive measures to protect their life by all means.

“We have been strictly advised to ensure we don’t go out alone. We must also carry our weapons,” said a Station House Officer (SHO), requesting not to be named.

Suspects had snatched an SLR from PAP jawan Sukhwinder Singh, posted at Harike Pattan, after attacking him around 1.30 am on Saturday.

Singh was shifted to the medical hospital in Faridkot early in the morning.

Police personnel posted in border areas had already been cautioned against travelling alone in uniform. “They were asked to leave their residences in civil clothes and wear uniform only after reaching the police station,” said officials.
