MANILA, Philippines — The remains of the late Ateneo Blue Eagle basketball prospect Rene Baterbonia have been returned to his hometown, the university said on Saturday.
Ateneo de Manila University announced on Saturday that the remains of Baterbonia was brought home to Talacogan, Agusan del Sur, where he lies in state with his family and community and will remain there until his burial on Wednesday, June 24.
"Ateneo de Manila is working closely with Ateneo de Davao, coordinated the arrangements for Bobet's return home and continues to accompany the Baterbonia family during this time," the university said.
"Discussions are ongoing on the support that may be most helpful to the family, including educational assistance for Bobet's six siblings, who are expected to relocate to Davao and enroll at Ateneo de Davao University under scholarship support," they added.
Baterbonia died along with Divine Adili in a training session in Aurora on June 8.
