MANILA, Philippines — The Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday said preparations are underway in bringing home the remains of the late Blue Eagles cager Divine Adili to his home country.
In a statement, the university said it is a commitment to Adili and his family to bring his body home to his native Nigeria.
"As part of the University's continuing commitment to Divine Adili and his family, preparations are underway for the repatriation of Divine's remains to Nigeria, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with his family's wishes," the university said on Saturday.
Two Ateneo representatives will accompany Adili on his final journey.
"One of them, Fr Munching de Guzman SJ, has begun the necessary preparations for travel, including obtaining the required vaccinations and medications for entry into Nigeria," Ateneo said.
"While documentary and travel arrangements are still being finalized in coordination with Divine's family and the relevant authorities, preparations continue to ensure that Divine's return home is carried out with dignity, care, and respect," they added.
Adili and teammate Rene Baterbonia died on June 8, while in a training session in Aurora.
