
BEAUFORT: The people have been reminded not to entertain any suspicious or unknown phone calls to avoid becoming scam victims.
District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said: “Scammers only have one goal which is to steal money from the account holders through deception.
“They may claim to be police officers, Inland Revenue Board (IRB) officers, Customs officers or even Court officials.
“If anyone receives suspicious phone calls asking for your bank account number, please ignore it immediately because you will lose all your money in a short time.

He was speaking after a Yasin recitation and prayers led by Ustaz Ridzuan Bidin at the Nurul Iman Mosque in Weston, joined by 50 police officers of various ranks along with some 600 others.
Ismail also warned scammers that police would take drastic measures to stop them from cheating the public.
Regarding the religious event, he said it was to strengthen good relations between the police and the community.
“I am very excited about the Weston Muslim community participating in this programme while establishing friendly relations and close cooperation to prevent crime as a whole,” he said.
This programme was one of the two-way relationship initiatives to foster ties between the police and the local community.
At the ceremony, the police also presented a contribution to the chairman of the Nurul Iman Mosque Committee.
Also present were senior police officers of various ranks, Masjid Nurul Iman Committee Chairman Ismail Kambar and his committee, Imam Shamsul Tuah and his assistants Imam Ramli and Imam Samin Sidek.
