Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) marked a significant presence at the Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) 2026, bringing a delegation of 10 promising Malaysian startups to Taipei and Kaohsiung. The delegation featured innovative companies including Citysage Sdn Bhd, Dataverse Sdn Bhd, DespaQ, HiTerra AI, IOMINSIGHT Sdn Bhd, New Energy Centre Malaysia Sdn Bhd, PAIX Tech, Rymba, VEE Berhad, and Xtractify Sdn. Bhd. This initiative reflects Sidec’s continued commitment to expanding global exposure and strengthening international collaboration within the smart city ecosystem.
Over three immersive days from 17 to 20 March, the delegation actively engaged in exhibition showcases, public pitching sessions, and curated booth tours. These experiences provided startups with valuable insights into global trends and emerging technologies, enabling them to refine their vision through an international lens.
Beyond Exposure: Driving Meaningful Exchange
More than a platform for learning, SCSE 2026 became a space for meaningful exchange. The delegation connected with representatives from 53 countries, creating opportunities to share ideas, build networks, and explore potential collaborations. This environment reinforced the importance of cross-border engagement in accelerating innovation and scaling solutions beyond local markets.

A particularly notable moment emerged through engagement with Dr GJ Lee from Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. This interaction extended beyond formal dialogue, reflecting a growing alignment between ecosystems and opening pathways for future collaboration. It highlighted a key reality: innovation expands not in isolation, but through partnerships built on shared ambition and mutual growth.
Sustaining Momentum Across Cities

Building on this momentum, the journey continued to Kaohsiung from 20 to 22 March, where the delegation deepened its engagement at the southern part of the expo. Discussions with
Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-Rong reinforced a shared vision for advancing smart city development, positioning the engagement as more than a continuation of the event, but a step toward sustained collaboration.
The visit concluded with an engagement with the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), Taiwan’s largest ICT industry body. This final interaction brought the experience full circle, reinforcing the role of strong industry partnerships in driving sustainable innovation and strengthening ties between Malaysia and Taiwan’s technology ecosystems.
Powering the Future: Tron Energy Visit
Our visit to Tron Energy Technology Corporation offered a compelling glimpse into the forefront of sustainable mobility. From the development of customised battery packs to innovations in electric and autonomous vehicles, the experience underscored how advanced manufacturing is driving the transition toward clean energy and intelligent transportation systems. It was a valuable opportunity to witness firsthand the technologies shaping a smarter, greener future.
A Journey That Extends Beyond the Event
Ultimately, the experience extended beyond a series of engagements. It became a journey of perspective, one that began with intention and evolved into a deeper understanding of global opportunities. While the delegation returns with valuable insights and connections, the impact continues to unfold through strengthened networks, refined strategies, and renewed direction.
Through initiatives like this, Sidec continues to position Malaysian startups on the global stage, paving the way for smarter cities, stronger ecosystems, and a future shaped by collaboration and innovation.
