As we are on day 2 of the 2026 Smart City & Summit Expo, we finally got the time to take a look at the booths available this year. We were bombarded with a bunch of information that is certainly eye-opening, and we’re actually thinking about how some of these technologies could be integrated back in our home country. There are technologies ranging from governance to very helpful infrastructure systems.
Chunghwa Telecom
Chunghwa Telecom is the largest integrated telecommunications service provider in Taiwan, but they do function more than just being a telco service with telecommunications. The company showed off technologies to respond to emergencies by using the telecommunication services, then sending supplies via drones.

Surveillance cameras can also detect traffic accidents, fallen trees, road construction, and floods in real time. These data can be reported back so that everyone can avoid these disasters.

e-Formula Technologies
e-Formula is e-Formula is a pioneer in renewable energy system integration. It acts as the promoter of renewable energy and the industry value chain in Taiwan. Now, we were shown an EMS – energy management system – that controls the city’s power. As everything is connected through the power grid, we can relocate power to certain hotspots during the day, shut down some power plants, and also redistribute the power and restart power plants at night. Outages can also be monitored through the system as well.

Secom Co., Ltd.
Secom is a Japanese security company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan and they showcased something that many of us are worried – getting attacked out of nowhere. So, by integrating the security cameras with an AI visual system, it can detect potential attackers. Cosplayers might be flagged by the system, but it’s something that I think is important to be implemented. There’s also a thermal camera integrated to detect people who are potentially sick as well.

ALTOB Taiwan
ALTOB is a company that focuses on car parking and to make them smart. The Parking Insight aims to achieve maximum smartness with minimum hardware deployed, hence saving cost without affecting the effectiveness of the system while also making life of us consumers easy.
Of course, the company has systems like car plate recognition from the front and back, car exit and entry, and even loitering detection so that potential criminals are detected before any theft could happen.

Plus, there is another system where the car detection is placed at the center of the parking space, and another pole for payments is deployed together, but no actual construction for installation is involved. It’s also fully wireless and powered via solar panels.

As EV adoption grows, its potential fire hazard still looms as lithium-ion battery explosions are just very scary. ALTOB also has a machine that showed us that it can detect hot batteries within the parking lot and spray water on it to cool it down first. This is to prevent overheating batteries, which could potentially start a fire later on. Either way, it’s a good prevention method.

Foxconn
And unsurprisingly of all, Foxconn is on the move to modernize transportation. We did see all the EV conversion kits that Foxconn has last during last year’s Smart City & Summit Expo, and this year – there is an EV that is so smart to that we were told is actually going to be deployed in Japan. It’s a taxi.
The interior is what’s interesting. We’ve been told that there is a translation system built-in so that the driver can communicate with the driver, that’s why there’s a screen at the back for the passenger.

ASUS MAAS
ASUS MAAS is a division within the big ASUS that we know and love – and this MAAS division is focusedo n the systems within automated vehicles. This EV, which is made in collaboration with Macnica, Navya, Foxconn, and ASUS MAAS, is a self-driving EV bus. It’s a bit on the small side, but it is fully automated and also gutted out so that passengers can move around and stand inside if needed.

Many more booths are available
Of course, this is just a glimpse into the many booths that are set up here. If you are around, please do visit the 2026 Smart City Summit & Expo at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2!
