MANILA, Philippines — Vanie Gandler has one goal in mind in the tournament — and that is to help the Cignal Super Spikers win a championship.
The Alas Pilipinas mainstay scored a game-high 20 points in a straight sets win over the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22, allowing Cignal to break out from a two-game slump in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Gandler’s performance was built on 18 attacks and two blocks plus 13 excellent receptions. Rose Doria backed her up with 11 points.
Cignal, which bowed to Nxled and Akari in its previous games, raised its record to a 5-2 win-loss card.
Averaging 16.7 points per game, Gandler said that she has only one goal this conference.
“My goal for myself is to be able to help Cignal win the championship. That's it,” she told the media after the bounce-back win against ZUS.
The 25-year-old gunner, who scored 23 points in a five-set loss against Nxled, shrugged off the idea that she is Cignal’s “main man.”
“I’m not really looking at it like I'm the front of the offense. I'm just doing everything I can to help the team. So, when I see that the team needs to make a point, I try to be as aggressive as I can be because I know that I prepare well,” she said.
Since Cignal’s PVL debut in 2021, the Super Spikers have not won a championship in the PVL but has earned two silvers and five bronzes.
ZUS was led by Thea Gagate and Jov Gonzaga, who scored 11 points each.
The Thunderbelles are on the brink of being relegated to the play-in round as they droppef to a 1-6 record.
