In compliance with the directions of the Election Commission of India and under the guidance of the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, district-level training programmes have commenced in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar for the upcoming special intensive revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls.

The training programme, being conducted in two shifts under the supervision of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, is aimed at familiarising election officials, including Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) and other staff with the procedures, guidelines and operational aspects of the special intensive revision. She stated that in addition to election staff, Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by recognised political parties are also being imparted the necessary training to ensure effective implementation of the exercise.

Nodal Officer (SVEEP) Prof Gurbakhshish Singh Antal said District Revenue Officer Harvinder Singh Hundal has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for the training programme by the District Election Officer.

During today’s session, District Master Trainers, including Soil Conservation Officer Anil Bansal, imparted training to Assembly constituency-level Master Trainers, technical and clerical staff of the DEO office, officials posted in ERO/AERO offices and supervisory staff.

Election Kanungo Surinder Batra said similar training sessions will be organised at the Assembly constituency-level from June 15 to June 18 to ensure that all officials, BLOs, BLAs and other staff concerned are fully acquainted with the SIR process and guidelines.

Briefing participants about the SIR schedule, the Master Trainers said BLOs will conduct door-to-door distribution and collection of enumeration forms from June 25 to July 24. The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3. Claims and objections will be accepted from August 3 to September 2, and their disposal will be completed by September 28. Thereafter, the final electoral rolls will be published as per the programme notified by the Election Commission of India.

The trainers emphasised that during the SIR exercise, BLOs will ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that no ineligible entry remains on the list. They described the SIR as a vital exercise for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections.

During the training session, all queries raised by the participating officials and employees were answered and practical guidance was provided to facilitate the smooth execution of field-level activities.

Among others present on the occasion included District Social Security Officer Navdeep Kaur, Election Kanungo Varun Kumar, Jagtar Singh and Sanjeev Kumar from the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kharar.
