The green wave that swept through Malay dominated states in GE15 spearheaded by PN component parties of PAS and BERSATU wresting 74 parliamentary seats making it the biggest grouping in Parliament but not large enough to form a government is poised to overrun the state elections next in the middle of the year.
During GE15, they succeeded in turning Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Trengganu green.
"Green is a very down-to-earth colour. It can represent new beginnings and growth. It also signifies renewal and abundance. Alternatively, green can also represent envy or jealousy, and a lack of experience."
We would like to think that this green wave represents new beginnings and growth, signifying renewal and abundance in our country. It may be the beginning of a return to Malay rule minus the corruption and abuse by the previous Malay government that almost destroyed the nation.
But some choose to associate green with extremism that they say PAS and BERSATU represent.
That prompted Dr M to take to Twitter warning us not to try to scare Malaysians about Malay rule by painting them green.
According to FMT, in a post on his Twitter account titled "Green Wave", the ex PM noted that Malaysia saw rapid development when it was governed by a Malay-majority government for 60 years. "The non-Malays achieved a lot of progress," he said.
On the other hand, this new Malay government labelled as green signifies yet another meaning. It may represent envy or jealousy, and a lack of experience. Most MPs in this green movement lack experience. So they are "green horns" and they did show their colours during a short stint in the government before GE15.
I do hope when they come to power in the four or five of the six states being contested they would not rush headlong into making changes that might be detrimental to the country. It would be wise to engage more professional help in areas where they needed assistance.
On the other hand, green too represents envy and jealousy.
This could emerge from amongst members of political parties across the divide that are certainly envious of the green movement's success and would like to see its voters decline in number in forthcoming elections.
By doing so they may not be a threat to leaders of the ruling coalition and their more urban and enlightened members in the ruling elites. But such hopes may not materialise.
Six states - PH-controlled Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, and PAS-led Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu - will hold their elections after June, and onservers say PN is expected to offer PH a tough fight judging from its performance in GE15. Selangor will be a battle ground for PH and PN with PKR losing its grip on the state which it has held for last 15 years (?).
Meanwhile, PN is already preparing for a tough battle in Selangor with Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu already in the bag. If they could capture Selangor and Negeri Sembilan it would indeed be a crowning glory for the coalition.
Should Selangor falls into hands of PN, PMX will eventually lose its base leading to a crisis in confidence over the latter's leadership.
I suspect the opposition may just be building up the momentum towards achieving that goal. If Lokman Adam's allegations about creating instability by using three young leaders who met at Ilham Tower recently is to be believed, then what is being hatched must also point in that direction.
It's not meant to be an attempt to persuade 15 MPs to resign and seek office again in a by election. That might come later.
But for now, state elections are their priority and wresting control of Selangor from PKR is probably of utmost importance.
Then there was a meeting between Tun Mahathir and Tan Sri Annuar Musa of Mufakat Nasional a few days ago supposedly to strengthen Malay unity.
That too must have been geared towards wresting seats away from PH-PKR-UMNO.
Obviously, it was with this scenario in mind that Tun Mahathir has prepared Malaysians not to fear the Green Wave which is coming their way in July/August whether they like it or not. They are coming to stay until GE16
