MANILA, Philippines — With a rematch against world No. 2 Elena Rybakina at stake, Alex Eala faces Donna Vekic anew at the WTA 500 Berlin Open first round in Germany.
The round of 32 match is likely set on Monday or Tuesday.
The draw on Saturday pitted the Filipino Eala and the Croatian Vekic for the third time.
Eala defeated Vekic in their first encounter at the ASB Classic first round in New Zealand, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, on January 6.
A little over a week later on January 14, Eala topped Vekic anew, 6-3, 6-4, albeit in an exhibition match at the Kooyong Classic.
The winner between Eala and Vekic in this Berlin tournament faces the No. 2 seed Rybakina, who received a first-round bye.
