MANILA, Philippines — The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered the suspension of power disconnections nationwide from May to July because of the continued implementation of the State of National Energy Emergency.
In an advisory, the regulator also ordered the distrubution utilities (DUs) to implement staggered or deffered payment schemes to ease financial burden on customers.
It noted that customers with a monthly consumption not exceeding 200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) were allowed to defer payment of their bills for the May-July period, which may be spread out over three months from receipt of the bill, with installments reflected in subsequent billing statements.
The ERC also ordered generation companies, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation, National Power Corporation, National Transmission Corporation, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, independent power producers, independent power administrators, and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines to extend the same payment scheme to the DUs.
