THE FEU Lady Tamaraws look to get a win run going as they face the still winless Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.
The match is set at 3 p.m., succeeding the first women’s match between the UE Lady Warriors and the reigning champs NU Lady Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
Men’s games take center stage in the morning session with the FEU Tamaraws facing the Ateneo Blue Eagles at 9 a.m., and the UE Red Warriors facing the defending champs NU Bulldogs at 11 a.m.
The FEU Lady Tamaraws have been in an up and down stretch to start their campaign, winning two of their four matches (2-2) for fourth place in the standings tied with the UST Golden Tigresses and the Adamson Lady Falcons.
FEU is coming off a 22-25, 31-28, 25-17, 25-20 win over Adamson last Sunday, bouncing back from its loss to NU.
While the Lady Tamaraws are in a much better place compared to the cellar-dwelling Blue Eagles, FEU coach Tina Salak said the fact that Ateneo actually won a set against the unbeaten La Salle last Sunday and her team didn’t is something else.
It showed that no team should be underestimated this season.
“I did feel a bit envious because, of course, playing against La Salle, they were able to win one set, while we weren’t. So that’s something you naturally weigh,” said Salak.
“Still, we should never underestimate our opponent. All of us, during this season, have had our ups and downs. So we really don’t know what will happen.”
The Sergio Veloso-mentored Blue Eagles are determined to finally barge into the win column after a 4-set loss to the De La Salle Lady Spikers, 14-25, 25-21, 15-25, 17-25, last Sunday.
Ateneo is the first team to hand a set loss against the league-leading and 4-0 La Salle this season.
