THE UST Golden Tigresses defended their lair as they devoured the UE Lady Warriors, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

Familiar with every inch of the court, Cassie Carballo orchestrated the UST offense to a tee with 13 excellent sets laced with five points in the team’s first home game.

The Tigresses showed their might especially in the third set with a 9-0 start, taking the Lady Warriors’ fight away en route to their second straight win after starting the season with back-to-back losses.

UST sat in fourth place of the standings at press time Saturday afternoon.

The cellar-dwelling UE continued to dive with four straight losses and 18 straight dating back to last season.

“I’m happy and proud because we are slowly adapting to each other about what we want to do,” said UST head coach Shaq Delos Santos in the post-game presser.

“We know that we have a lot to improve and execute our plays better, but the good thing is we have a good result today. We have a lot of work to do but we believe that slowly we will be able to get what we want.”

Angge Poyos fired 11 points and logged three digs and two receptions to lead the Tigresses who doubled the win for UST after the Golden Spikers defeated the UE Red Warriors, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22, in the morning session.

Jonna Perdido added 10 points, six digs, and four receptions for UST as Regina Jurado and Avril Bron chipped in eight points apiece.

Khy Cepada racked up nine points, four digs, and two receptions to pace UE.

Van Bangayan aided Cepada with three points and five receptions.
