
MANILA, Philippines — The De La Salle University extended its winning streak to 16 over Ateneo de Manila University, overcoming a second-set hiccup, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
UAAP Season 85 Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player (MVP) Angel Canino went out firing with a double-double performance of 21 points, complemented by 11 excellent receptions.
Lilay Del Castillo dominated at the net, scoring eight of La Salle's 16 blocks alongside 7 attacks and 3 aces for 18 points.
Middle blocker Amie Provido also joined the double-digit party after putting up 17 points. The Lady Spikers’ rookie setter Eshana Rose Nunag displayed her wit not only in playmaking with her 19 excellent sets, and also added six points.
“That’s what we always said to them, we should not take it easy against our opponent. That’s what happened in the second set. Ateneo is very patient inside the court. We told them to show more patience inside the match,” La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said in the post-game presser in Filipino.
Ateneo was led by Ana Hemosura’s 18-point output while J.Lo Delos Santos chipped in 15 points.
The Blue Eagles are still winless in four games.
