ALOR GAJAH – A Form One student at a secondary school here allegedly chased three schoolmates while armed with a cutter knife after reportedly being bullied.
The incident occurred at about 2.50pm on Thursday during a programme held at the school's open hall.
Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said preliminary investigations found that the incident was triggered after the 13-year-old suspect was repeatedly pelted with ice cubes, causing him to lose his temper.
"Investigations found that two male students, aged 13 and 14, repeatedly threw ice cubes at the suspect."
"The suspect then took a cutter knife from his pencil case before chasing one of the victims for about 50 metres to the school's surau area," he said on Friday.
He said the tense situation also prompted two other students who were with the victim to flee, fearing they would be harmed.
However, he said the situation was brought under control after a teacher successfully persuaded the suspect to surrender the knife.
Ahmad said no injuries were reported among the students or teachers following the incident.
"The suspect's family was called to the school to take him home. He had previously received treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, with his last recorded treatment session on June 3.
"Investigations also found that all the students involved have disciplinary records dating back to the beginning of this year," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
