MANILA, Philippines — A female passenger missed her flight to General Santos City over a gun that was found in her belongings, the PNP-Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup) said Monday.
The Avsegroup reported that personnel from the Office for Transportation Security manning the x-ray screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on September 26, detected an image resembling a firearm inside a styrofoam box covered with yellow tape.
Found inside the box was a Llama 9mm pistol bearing serial number 479315, one empty magazine, and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Aviation police said that the 38-year-old passenger admitted to carrying the firearm and claimed that it belonged to her cousin. However, no documents to prove legal possession were presented.
Avsegroup Director PBGen. Dionisio B. Bartolome stressed that every firearm detected at airports is treated as a serious security concern.
