MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or habagat is expected to bring heavy rains over parts of Luzon through Monday, with Zambales and Bataan forecast to receive as much as 200 millimeters of rain through Saturday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its 5 p.m. advisory, Pagasa forecast 100 to 200 mm of rain over Zambales and Bataan from Friday through Saturday afternoon.
Another 50 to 100 mm of rain was forecast over Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro during the same period.
From Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, Occidental Mindoro could receive 100 to 200 mm of rain, while 50 to 100 mm was forecast over Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro and Antique, according to the weather bureau.
From Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon, Pagasa forecast 50 to 100 mm of rain over Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.
Pagasa warned that rainfall could be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, while significant rainfall that has already fallen in some areas could worsen the impacts of the expected rains.
The weather bureau advised concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take necessary measures to protect life and property.
Pagasa's regional services divisions may issue localized heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories and other severe weather information as conditions warrant.
The next weather advisory is scheduled for 11 p.m. Friday unless significant changes occur.
