Having fake MyKad lands Filipina 28 months’ jail

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old Filipina who was found in possession of a fake MyKad was sentenced to 28 months’ jail.

Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin handed down the sentence to Rowena Lienado after she pleaded guilty to the charge on Tuesday.

Rowena was found in possession of the fake document, issued under the name Norain Abd Rahman and bearing serial number 901122-12-6620, at 6.20pm on July 30 this year at the Inanam police station here.

She was charged under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), which carries a maximum jail term of three years, or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.

The court ordered Rowena to serve her sentence from the date of her arrest and to be referred to the Immigration Department upon completion of her jail term.

The court heard that Rowena was detained during Ops Bersepadu. A fingerprint check found that her details did not exist in the National Registration Department (NRD) system.

Investigations later revealed that the document was a fake.

NRD Prosecuting Officer Mohamad Faisal Tahir appeared for the prosecution, while Rowena was not represented.
