Kota Kinabalu: A manager of an entertainment outlet was fined RM7,500, in default 10 months’ jail, for operating the outlet without a licence.
Zul Niezam, 22, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin after the charge was read to him on Tuesday.
He was found operating the unlicensed entertainment outlet at 9pm on July 29 this year at Crooners Lot 9, Sri Kepayan Commercial Centre, near here.
The offence was committed under Section 3 of the Public Entertainment Ordinance and punishable under Section 11 of the same Ordinance, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000, or imprisonment of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.
The court also ordered the RM150 seized during the raid to be forfeited.
The court heard that during the raid, police found that the outlet was operating using another outlet’s licence but did not have a public entertainment licence.
Further checks with City Hall found that the premises did not have a licence to operate an entertainment outlet.
Meanwhile, two Chinese nationals were each fined RM5,000, in default five months’ jail, for entering the state illegally.
Liu Qing and Mu Yonggao pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to entering the state without valid travel documents.
The duo was arrested at the Immigration checking counter at the departure hall of Kota Kinabalu International Airport on July 8 this year.
After paying the fine or serving the jail term, the court ordered them to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
