Hotshots to solidify playoff hopes

MAGNOLIA tries to keep its winning streak going, and more importantly, strengthen its quarterfinal bid when it battles first-round tormentor Phoenix in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Hotshots enter the 7:30 p.m. match versus the Fuel Masters tied for joint third spot with idle Blackwater Bossing at 3-3.

The charges of coach LA Tenorio has won its last two games, and appears to be getting its rhythm now under import KJ Buffen.

Magnolia beat longtime rival Barangay Ginebra, 88-73, followed by a lynching of Meralco, 105-88, in a game that had to be halted prior to the start of the fourth quarter due to a leaking roof at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium last week.

“The past three games, we’ve been really in a playoff mentality already. I challenged the players, my team, for this kind of games, and this game will give us a chance going to the next level,” Tenorio said following their 17-point spanking of Meralco.

Magnolia bowed to Phoenix, 98-86, during their initial face off last July 11.

Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer (SMB) is looking good and is preparing itself for the playoffs following two huge victories.

The Beermen will be facing the struggling Titan Ultra Giant Risers at 5:15 p.m.

SMB enters the game carrying a 6-2 card, just half a game behind Group A leader NLEX (6-1).

Titan Ultra carries the opposite record of SMB with its anemic 2-6 record to share the cellar with Macao.

The 5:15 p.m. match features a Titan squad trying to improve its current 2-6 record, climb out of the Group A cellar and hopefully gain inclusion among the top four teams from the bracket advancing to the quarterfinals.

San Miguel showed no mercy in its first encounter with Titan Ultra, scoring a lopsided 143-105 win last July 29.
