According to XUAN解忧树洞, a married woman has decided she wants to leave her husband after years of feeling that she has sacrificed almost everything for their family… while receiving little in return.
She and her husband got together when they were young. They were each other's first partners and eventually married, with one child. Her husband works and earns the household income, while she stays home to manage the house and raise their child.
From the outside, she describes herself as almost the “perfect wife”. She cooks, cleans, looks after their child and takes care of the household. She also believes she has spent years protecting her husband's pride, particularly when it comes to money and their sex life.
Their sex life has never been fulfilling for her. She said she often pretended to enjoy it simply to avoid hurting his feelings.
Financially, her husband gives RM1,500 a month for the household. However, that amount has to cover groceries, household necessities, their child's expenses, utilities and other bills. She eventually began earning extra income through social media by sharing educational activities she created for her child.
The content performed well, allowing her to contribute more towards the family's expenses. Yet she kept her earnings from her husband, again because she did not want to hurt his pride.
Last year, she began feeling that her life had become a future she could already see from beginning to end. She eventually reached a point where she felt so hopeless that she had thoughts of ending her life.
She decided to speak honestly with her husband.
Instead of discussing how they could change their relationship, he became angry, particularly when she raised concerns about their sex life. He also refused to consider divorce, saying they should stay together for their child.
At the same time, she felt he offered no solution to the problems she had raised and instead accused her of spending too much money.
Eventually, she proposed an open marriage.
Her husband became furious and immediately asked whether she had already cheated on him.
When she raised divorce again, he reportedly smashed a chair in their home.
That incident made her realise she no longer wanted to keep compromising.
She believes her husband is not simply afraid of losing his wife, but of losing someone who cooks, cleans, raises their child, manages the household and continues accommodating him as a partner.
Now, her social media income is enough for her to support herself and her child.
She has decided that if the relationship requires her to keep sacrificing herself, she would rather walk away.
With the divorce process now being handled by a lawyer, she says her priority is protecting her child and finally choosing a life for herself.
