Job openings for 800 Sabahans in solar glass manufacturing plant

Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans are urged to apply for more than 800 vacancies at one of the State’s biggest investing companies, SBH Kibing, a global leader in solar glass manufacturing.

The plant is scheduled to begin operations at the end of the year.

Its solar glass plant at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) and silica sand processing plant in Kudat offered an estimated 2,100 job opportunities.

Political Secretary to the Sabah Minister Ministry of Industry Development and Entrepreneurship (MIDE), Chan Loong Wei said, only 54 per cent of vacancies have been filled.

Read more “MIDE has taken proactive steps to address these urgent workforce needs by holding meetings together with related departments and agencies as well as skills and study institutions including Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic.

“A meeting chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Datuk Thomas Logijin on Thursday, ensured they can be filled before factory begins operating by the end of 2023.

“Among jobs urgently needed by investors are electrical chargemen and boilermen, steam engineers, authorised gas testers, forklift and shovel drivers among others,” he said.

Chan said various benefits and incentives are offered to Sabahans including training at home and abroad to obtain relevant certifications for career advancement.

SBH Kibing Solar New Materials (M) Sdn Bhd and SBH Kibing Silicon Materials (M) Sdn Bhd’s estimated investment value is at RM2.48 billion.

Meanwhile, Phoong would lead a six day working visit to the Republic of South Korea from 5th to 11 July.

The main purpose is to visit the SK Nexilis factory which is a big investor for Sabah.

“Also, it is also to hold further discussions with a few other South Korean investors that have expressed interest in Sabah.

“The Republic of South Korea is one of Sabah’s trading partners contributing of 7.1 per cent for export and 8.6 per cent for import value in 2022,” he said.

Phoong will also be meeting with SK Nexilis CEO Yi Jae Hong to attract further development and job opportunities.

It is hoped that this work visit will be able to further strengthen relations and economic cooperation which will further improve Sabah’s standard of living.
