KENINGAU: The Keningau Youth Club welcomes the announcement of an additional 10 special quotas of Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) in each State Constituency which will be allocated to youth throughout the state.

Its Chairman, Syafiee Haji Ludi, said the state government’s move was a timely and very meaningful initiative to help youth own their own homes, especially those who have just started a family life or are working.

“This effort not only provides relief to rural youth, but also proves the state government’s concern for the challenges of the cost of living and the ability to own a home among the younger generation,” he said in a statement here on Sunday.

He was commenting on the announcement by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor in Pitas yesterday, that an additional 10 units of Rumah Mesra SMJ in each constituency will be allocated to youth who have just started a family, starting next year.

Hajiji said that the addition means that 50 units of Rumah Mesra SMJ will be built in each constituency starting next year compared to 40 units this year.

“This year we will provide 40 Rumah Mesra SMJ and next year we will work on 50 units in each constituency for the poor. The additional 10 units are for the poor and newly married young people because we understand that there are young people who are newly married and still living in the family home,” he said.

Meanwhile,  Syafiee told that the facility is believed to be able to reduce the burden of young people who have been facing difficulties in owning a house due to financial constraints and high market prices.

“With this special quota, more youth in rural areas including in Keningau will have the opportunity to live in their own homes without having to wait too long,” he said.

Syafiee said that the Keningau Youth Club is also committed to working with relevant agencies to ensure that youths receive accurate information and equal opportunities to apply for the housing scheme.

“The Youth Club will act as a provider of information and a liaison so that no youth is left out of the opportunities provided by the government,” he said.

He also expressed his confidence that the state government under the leadership of Hajiji will continue to pay attention to the youth development agenda.

“We believe that with continued support from the state government, the well-being and future of Sabah’s youth will be more secure and stable,” he said.
