Kota Kinabalu: The Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) will host the Kota Kinabalu Classic Cup race with a total prize money of RM30,500 at the Tuaran Tambalang Race course tomorrow (Sunday).
The KK Classic, which is one of the five races taking place on the day, will be the main highlight and is scheduled to start at 3:35pm.
A total of 13 horses will compete for the main event, which is a 1,800m race on turf track.
RSTC Chairman Datuk Peter Chin said the last KK Classic race was before the global Covid-19 pandemic. It took place on September 8, 2019, a 1,700m race on turf track with rating 65-83.
“Brilliant One won the race ahead of HongKong Princess with a 2.25 margin,” he said in a statement here.
Brilliant One will return as one of the early favourites along with Blarney Blink, Super Come and Kimberly Pride.
The champion of the main event will receive RM15,800 while the 1st and 2nd runner-ups will be awarded RM6,200 and RM3,100 respectively.
The jockeys, on the other hand, will be awarded RM1,600, RM650 and RM350 respectively.
Meanwhile, Chin said Sunday’s event will kick off with three initiation races, each contested on 1,100m sand track, followed by the Cup race before concluding with the Class Five race.
“The first race will start at 12:35pm while the Cup race will start at 3:35pm,” he said.
