Cyrille Almeniana recorded 16 attack points and 2 service aces to lead the unbeaten University of Perpetual Help System Dalta to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-11 victory over Mapua University in NCAA Season 101 Women's Volleyball Tournament at the San Andres Gym on Wednesday in Malate, Manila.  Coach Sandy Rieta praised his Lady Altas for their relentless defense but said there are still a lot of spaces for improvement even after winning their first four games in Group A.

"Marami pa kaming dapat itama, i-improved, saka malayo pa ang laban, but syempre, natutuwa ako sa pinapakita ng mga bata," said Rieta, who also noted that this is the best start for the team in seven years.

Geraldine Palacio and Jemalyn Menor chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively for the Las Pinas-based school even as Fianne Ariola recorded 24 excellent sets.

Seanelle Garcia led the Lady Cardinals with 11 points.

The Perpetual Help men’s volleyball team, meanwhile, outplayed Mapua, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19 to raise its win-loss record to 2-2.  Klint Mateo led the Altas with 7 points, 2 blocks and 26 excellent sets while libero Nash Abenoja finished with 14 excellent receptions and 7 digs.

Khian Andres also scored 17 points, all from attacks and John Castil added 16 points and 4 digs.

Altas coach Macky Carino said the team dedicated the win to their late mentor, Sammy Acaylar, who would have celebrated his 62nd birthday on Wednesday.

"Hopefully the good game will continue and their game will improve more," Carìno said.
