KUALA LUMPUR - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said former party member Lee Chean Chung had not attended party meetings or congresses for some time.
He said Lee, who resigned as the Petaling Jaya MP with immediate effect, had also not been involved in party affairs for about a year.
"So, it is only appropriate. If he is no longer interested, there is no issue. He can leave on good terms. Thank you for his contributions over the years.
"He hasn’t been involved in party affairs for about a year, hasn’t attended any party meetings and didn’t attend the congress either. So, there is no issue,” he told reporters after inspecting the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) quarters in Sungai Besi here today.
On Lee’s claim that allocations for Petaling Jaya had been withheld, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government always ensures the smooth implementation of development projects such as schools, surau, mosques, temples and roads.
The Prime Minister also said Lee’s resignation will not affect development projects in the area.
"He is entitled to his views and we can accept them. But it is not true that development projects will come to a halt when an MP steps down,” he added.
Asked about possible legal action against Lee, Anwar said the matter has been referred to PKR secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh and the party’s Legal Committee, which includes Sivarasa Rasiah.
Earlier, Lee announced his resignation as the Petaling Jaya MP with immediate effect following PKR’s decision to suspend his membership for three years, adding that he decided to quit after receiving the suspension letter on Sept 30. - BERNAMA
