SANDAKAN: A 30-year-old man was fined RM6,000 or face eight months’ jail for possessing adult and child pornography on his mobile phone.
Magistrate Nor Aisyah Mohamed Zanyuin handed down the sentence to Sopian Jaini after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Friday.
The offence under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to three years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The court heard that police discovered pornographic videos during an inspection at Tongkang Jetty, Jalan Limbungan Kapal, Kampung Cenderamata, here, at 4pm on July 30 this year.
Further investigations found that Sopian’s mobile phone contained pornographic videos involving adults and children, which were stored in the gallery and downloads folders.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jasmine Walter urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence.
