MANILA, Philippines — Manibela will not push through with its transport strike on Tuesday, Sept. 29, following a request from Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Markuz Lacanilao, the group said Monday.
“LTO Chief Asec. Markuz Lacanilao appealed to Manibela to temporarily cancel the transport strike, also on behalf of the DOTr, because of the number of passengers who have been stranded. Tomorrow, there will be a dialogue with Malacañang,” the group wrote in a social media post, referring to the Department of Transportation.
Manibela led Monday's transport strike, joined by other transport and commuter groups, to press for lower fuel prices and the removal of excise taxes, among other concerns affecting drivers and the transport sector.
Meanwhile, transport group Piston said it will proceed with its nationwide transport strike and protests on Sept. 29-30.
