
The death toll in the tragic road accident near Sarasadi Dhank in Manikaran Valley has risen to three after a young man succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS-Bilaspur on Saturday.
The accident occurred on Friday when a tourist vehicle carrying a family from Punjab veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge along the Bhuntar-Manikaran road.
Forty-year-old Paramjit Diwan died on the spot, while his 21-year-old daughter, Nidhi Diwan, succumbed to her injuries at Bhuntar Hospital shortly after the crash.
Paramjit’s 22-year-old son, Aditya Diwan, who had sustained critical injuries, was first treated locally and later referred to AIIMS-Bilaspur, where he died on Saturday, taking the death toll to three.
The victims were from a family in Jalandhar, and the tragedy has left relatives and acquaintances in deep shock.
According to officials, the accident occurred within the jurisdiction of Manikaran police station when the vehicle reportedly went out of control and rolled into a gorge.
Two other occupants injured in the accident are still under treatment. Paramjit’s wife, Ritu Diwan (36), is being treated at a hospital in Kullu, while six-year-old Manav Kashyap is undergoing treatment at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Ner Chowk.
Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal said all legal formalities have been completed and the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.
The accident has once again raised concerns over safety on the Bhuntar-Manikaran road, a busy tourist route that has seen multiple accidents in recent years. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
