Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (MCSC) has expressed support for a proposed development by Sabah Government Employees Cooperative Society Berhad (Kopeks) on its land at the former Sabah Times office site here.
Sabah MCSC Director Awg Rusli Mohammad said the commission would assist Kopeks in planning the development, which is envisioned as an iconic building in the State capital.
“Kopeks will be assisted by MCSC in planning and implementing the proposed new building on the approximately one-acre site formerly occupied by the Sabah Times office,” he said after officiating Kopeks’ 63rd anniversary celebration at Kopeks' office here, on Tuesday.
Kopeks Chairman Datuk Saat Ag Damit said the proposed development formed part of the cooperative’s plans to strengthen and diversify its business activities, with the site envisioned as a commercial and operational centre for cooperatives in Sabah.
He said the proposal would be brought through the necessary processes before implementation, while Rusli said MCSC fully supported efforts to develop the site and would assist Kopeks with its planning.
