Meralco clobbered an import-less Terrafirma, 113-69, to secure the fourth and last twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round during Friday’s PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.
The Bolts threw their full offensive might against the Dyip who played without import Ali Mubashar.
The seven-foot Mubashar did not play due to case of food poisoning, the team said.
Meralco secured its eighth win in 11 games and will close the elimination round on Sunday against Magnolia at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Terrafirma ended its campaign at 4-8 in another disappointing run.
The Dyip had a promising start after zooming to a 3-0 start, but went on to lose eight of their last nine games.
As PBA head statistician Fidel Mangonon, Meralco’s 44-point win was its biggest in franchise history.
Import Marvin Jones played just over 13 minutes in the rout as he and Chris Newsome scored 14 points each to lead the Bolts.
Paolo Hernandez and Maverick Ahanmisi led the Dyip with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
