MANILA, Philippines — Monsoon rains flooded parts of Metro Manila on Saturday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
As of 11:12 a.m., the MMDA said the following areas were flooded:
Quezon City:
EDSA-Oliveros northbound
D. Tuazon cor. Maria Clara Street
Aurora Boulevard cor. Betty Go-Belmonte
Araneta Ave. cor. Baloy
Quezon Ave. cor. D. Tuazon
Biak na Bato cor. Quezon Ave.
E. Rodriguez, Sr. Ave.-Araneta Ave. northbound
EDSA Monte de Piedad southbound
Makati City:
EDSA Estrella southbound.
According to the MMDA, these areas have gutter deep floods, but passable to all types of vehicles.
In its early bulletin on Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said moderate to heavy rainfall will be experienced in several provinces in Luzon and the Visayas due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat."
Affected areas are Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Ilocos, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro. and Antique.
Batanes and Babuyan islands, meanwhile, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Typhoon Dolphin, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Zamboanga Peninsula, the rest of Luzon, the rest of Visayas, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies due to localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, a low pressure area has been monitored outside the PAR and has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
