Monsoon to bring more rains to Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasted cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Metro Manila and other areas because of the southwest monsoon.

"Based on our latest satellite animation, it is the southwest monsoon that is prevailing over the entire Luzon and Visayas. That will bring moderate to heavy rains today, especially in the western part of central and southern Luzon," Weather Specialist Charmagne Varilla said in Filipino and English in Pagasa's Public Weather Forecast issued at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Even as no gale warning was raised, she cautioned those who would go out to sea, especially in the western part of Luzon, because seas would be slight to moderate.

Varilla told the public to expect monsoon rains in Zambales on Tuesday and occasional rains on Tuesday in Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

Pagasa forecasted 100 to 200 millimeters (mm) of rainfall in Zambales up to Tuesday afternoon.

It forecasted 50 to 100 mm of rainfall up to Tuesday afternoon in Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique.

It forecasted 50 to 100 mm of rainfall from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon in Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

As to the weather in Palawan and Antique on Tuesday, Varilla told the public to expect rains.

As to the weather in the rest of Luzon on Tuesday, Pagasa forecasted cloudy skies and high chances of rain.

Based on the forecast, isolated rainshowers were possible in the rest of the Visayas on Tuesday.

Also based on the forecast, thunderstorms were possible in Mindanao, especially in north Mindanao and Caraga, on Tuesday.

Pagasa forecasted 100 to 200 mm of rainfall in Occidental Mindoro from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon.

It forecasted 50 to 100 mm of rainfall from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon in Metro Manila, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Pamapanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, and Antique.
