MANILA, Philippines – The state-run weather agency said on Sunday that it was closely monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Weather specialist Veronica Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that the weather disturbance, estimated to be some 2, 195 east of southern Mindanao, would not be a threat to the weather conditions in the next 24 to 48 hours.

However, its trough or extension has been affecting Mindanao, Palawan, Eastern Samar, and Southern Leyte where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms    would occur, she said.

“Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains would be even possible in these areas due to the trough of the LPA,” the Pagasa forecaster added.

Meanwhile, another weather system, the easterlies – winds that carry warm and humid weather – will be experienced over Bicol Region and Quezon where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will be likely in 24 hours, the national weather bureau said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be experiencing a similar weather pattern but due to the localized thunderstorms, Torres said.
