In a push to eliminate gridlock and streamline urban mobility, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced an ambitious infrastructure overhaul aimed at creating a signal-free traffic network across the city.

Under the new infrastructure roadmap, the GMDA is set to construct five major elevated corridors along with seven strategic flyovers and underpasses. The plan, which has already received administrative approval, is part of a broader project involving 51 key road infrastructure developments at an estimated cost of Rs 386 crore.

According to GMDA Chief Executive Officer PC Meena, these projects are designed to significantly reduce commute times and enhance connectivity throughout the city. Key mobility improvement projects include:

  • NH-48 to Vatika Chowk
  • Rajiv Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk
  • Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk
  • Atul Kataria Chowk to Dwarka Expressway

The announcement was made during a coordination meeting with local municipal councilors, where officials confirmed that work had already been allocated for 12 of the 51 projects, while the remaining 39 are currently in the allocation process.

Beyond the major corridors, the GMDA is also focusing on comprehensive urban improvements. This includes strengthening the city’s drainage network ahead of the monsoon season, deploying over 200 personnel for de-silting operations and proposing the development of 20-25 retention ponds as a long-term solution to waterlogging.

To maintain the integrity of these new road networks, the authority is also ramping up efforts to curb the illegal dumping of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Plans include installing CCTV cameras at sensitive locations and launching a dedicated portal to manage C&D material reuse.

“Our goal is to create a seamless road network that serves the needs of Gurugram’s growing population,” said a GMDA official. “By integrating signal-free corridors with improved drainage and urban infrastructure, we are committed to enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.”
