SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir has successfully retained the Jeram Padang state seat after winning a four-cornered contest in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

According to official results announced by the Election Commission (EC), Zaidy secured 6,854 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Manivanan Gowin, who received 2,372 votes.

The other two candidates in the contest were Bersatu candidate R Sri Sanjeevan, who obtained 2,191 votes and Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) candidate Dayana Dal, who garnered 179 votes.

Zaidy won the seat with a majority of 4,482 votes, with a total of 11,596 votes cast in the Jeram Padang constituency.

The victory allowed Zaidy to defend the constituency and contributed to BN and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) success in forming the Negeri Sembilan state government after the alliance secured a two-thirds majority.

The outcome ended PH’s two-term administration in the state, with BN and PN combining their electoral strengths to take control of the state government.

Zaidy’s victory also continued BN’s recent momentum following its strong performance in the Johor state election, where the coalition secured a dominant win by capturing 48 of the 56 state seats.

Political analysts previously attributed BN-PN’s success in Negeri Sembilan to several factors, including the consolidation of Malay votes, dissatisfaction among some voters towards PH at both state and federal levels, and cooperation between Umno and Pas that helped reduce vote fragmentation.

Analysts also said the “Malay Unity” narrative played a significant role in attracting support, while BN’s Johor victory provided additional confidence and momentum for the coalition’s election machinery ahead of the Negeri Sembilan polls.
