SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohamad Qayyum Abd Jalil has won the Senaling state seat after securing victory in a three-cornered contest in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

According to official results announced by the Election Commission (EC), Qayyum, who is also the Kuala Pilah Umno Youth Chief, obtained 5,034 votes to defeat Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Hanis Alimin, who received 1,877 votes and Bersatu’s candidate Mohd Izaffi, who secured 432 votes.

Qayyum won the seat with a majority of 3,157 votes, with a total of 7,343 votes cast in Senaling.

The victory contributed to BN and PN’s success in forming the Negeri Sembilan state government after the coalition secured a two-thirds majority, ending PH’s two-term administration in the state.

The outcome also continued BN’s momentum following its strong performance in the Johor state election, where the coalition secured a dominant victory by winning 48 of the 56 state seats contested.

Political analysts had previously identified several factors behind the BN-PN success in Negeri Sembilan, including the consolidation of Malay votes, dissatisfaction towards PH at both state and federal levels and cooperation between Umno and Pas that helped reduce vote fragmentation.

The Senaling result further strengthened BN’s position in the state, where the coalition capitalised on its cooperation with PN and a unified electoral strategy to secure support across several constituencies.
