Pakistanis who overstayed to ‘stay on’ a year

Kota Kinabalu: Seven Pakistanis were jailed and fines by the Sessions Court here for overstaying in Sabah for between one and seven years.

They were identified as Kamran Shah, Muhammad Umar, Zaman Muhammad, Sabir Shah, Ihsan Ullah, Rahman Abdur and Sajad Ali.

Judge Hurman Hussain sentenced Kamran and Muhammad to 12 months’ jail each, while the other five were each fined RM10,000 in default 12 months’ jail, after they pleaded guilty separately to the charges against them.

They were charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The court also ordered all of them to be referred back to the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) for further action upon completion of their jail sentences or paying their fines.

In the same court, six other illegal immigrants were also sentenced for being in Malaysia without valid passes or permits under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

They comprised one Filipino man, an Indonesian man and three Pakistanis.

The Filipino and Indonesian men were each sentenced to four months’ imprisonment from the date of arrest, while the three Pakistani men were each fined RM4,000 or four months’ imprisonment.

The cases were prosecuted by Immigration Department Prosecuting Officer Kamrul Md Yusof.
