Government hospitals to provide high-level diagnostic services at par with super-specialty private hospitals.

Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao on Thursday announced the commencement of advanced PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) scan facilities at the Ambala Civil Hospital.

The introduction of the nuclear medicine facility will directly benefit critically ill patients admitted at the hospital, especially those suffering from cancer, neurological (brain-related) and heart diseases. Advanced techniques like PET and SPECT provide precise mapping of cellular activities and blood flow within the body, helping doctors detect tumors and other serious abnormalities at a very early stage. With this facility in place, critically ill patients will be able to receive timely and accurate treatment in emergency situations.

“The initiative is a milestone towards strengthening the public health sector. After the facility upgrade, government hospitals will also be able to provide high-level diagnostic services on the lines of super-specialty private hospitals,” said a government spokesperson.

Earlier, patients from Ambala and nearby areas had to depend on expensive private diagnostic centres for these specialised scans or travel to major institutions like PGIMER in Chandigarh. “This gap will now be bridged and affordable world-class diagnostic facilities will be accessible for residents. This will significantly reduce the financial burden on families and help save lives through timely treatment,” added the spokesperson.
