Eid al-Fitr is much more than just a religious rituals and cultural practices, it is a celebration of faith, family cohesiveness & gratitude. As Muslims around the world come together to mark the end of Ramadan, we reaffirm our shared values of compassion, generosity, and solidarity. It should be a continuation of Ramadan's spirit for patience. Actually, true joy lies in gratitude, simplicity, mindful living, not excess display. Eid celebration is the ethos of moderation, particularly in food consumption, social conduct, and material habits, thereby celebrating the occasion with a meaningful and caring sense of austerity.

In Eid conversations with my children and grandchildren, I emphasized, “The on-going war in the Middle East, the issue of excessive food consumption on Eid al-Fitr is both subtle and widespread. Minimizing food consumption on Eid does not mean eliminating joy, rather, it means eating with mindfulness, preparing only what is necessary, and ensuring that simplicity remains central. A modest meal shared with family, coupled with conscious Eid gratitude.”

I received whatsapp message from my good friend, Professor Naqi Azam from DHA Suffa University Pakistan that “As of March 2026, Eid al-Fitr in war-torn areas is marked by a profound juxtaposition of resilient faith and intense suffering, with many celebrating amid rubble, displacements, and ongoing violent. In conflict zones such as Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and under the shadow of regional tensions, Eid is characterized by muted festivities & endurance.”

Naqi added, “The regional tensions resulted, in Jerusalem, access to Al-Aqsa Mosque was heavily restricted, forcing many Palestinians had to pray on the streets outside the Old City walls. Worshippers in Tehran and other areas attended Eid prayers amidst fears of attacks following regional war escalation.”

The 2026 observances demonstrate how conflict fractures the traditional, festive experience of Eid, turning into a, largely “exercise in endurance” on loss.
