BEAUFORT: Efforts to boost the economy in Lumadan have finally been achieved with the construction of an eight-lot shop building that will begin next July.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam said the construction by Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd was at his urging when he was head of the Sedco subsidiary before.

“A total of RM3.5 million was allocated for the construction of this shop building which will be built on a two acres of waqf land in Kampung Padas Damit near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Padas Damit.

“The construction will take 18 months and is expected to be completed in early 2026,” he said after witnessing the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd and residents’ representatives here Tuesday (pic).

Beaufort District Officer Nazri Ajun and Lumadan Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) Officer Diuslin Augustin were also present.

Ruslan, who is also the Lumadan Assemblyman, said similar construction will also be carried out in Weston Town involving a 12-lot shop building for RM4.5 million.

He said the infrastructure will be built as soon as the shop-building project in Padas Damit is completed and it will also have an economic impact on the community in Weston.

“The construction of this shop building in Padas Damit fulfils all my plans to further develop the Lumadan constituency under the ‘Lumadan Sejahtera’ agenda.

“It is important since the Lumadan constituency is still far behind in various aspects of development compared to other state constituencies in Sabah.

“Therefore, once completed, this shop building will certainly open up economic opportunities for the local community, especially small and medium traders to have their own business premises,” he said.
