According to ChinaPress, a relationship controversy has sparked heated discussion online after a 37 year old man with an annual income reportedly approaching NTD5 million (approx RM600,000++) was allegedly caught cheating on his wife with a 41 year old woman.
What surprised many people was not simply the alleged affair, but the age and appearance of the woman involved. According to a post shared on Taiwan's online forum Dcard, the woman was four years older than the man and seven years older than his wife. She was also described by the original poster as having an ordinary appearance and physique.
The story quickly attracted attention because, according to the post, the successful and highly educated man had no shortage of attention from women in their 20s. This led some users to question why he would allegedly choose an older woman rather than someone younger and conventionally attractive.
The discussion originated from a Dcard post in which the writer described the man as a 37 year old acquaintance who was highly educated, professionally successful and earned close to NTD5 million a year. Despite reportedly having many young women showing interest in him, he was allegedly discovered to have engaged in an extramarital affair.
The original poster admitted being able to understand the argument that financial success could sometimes lead people to seek excitement outside their relationships. However, the writer was particularly puzzled by the choice of affair partner.
The discussion soon shifted from age and appearance to the role of emotional connection in relationships.
Some commenters argued that attraction cannot simply be measured by youth or physical appearance. They suggested that a more mature partner may offer emotional support, understanding and stability that can become deeply attractive over time.
Others pointed out that people who spend their days dealing with work pressure may value having someone who listens, understands and provides encouragement. In such situations, emotional intimacy can potentially become more important than physical appearance.
Some users also argued that the affair might not necessarily have been driven by physical attraction or the pursuit of excitement. Instead, they suggested that emotional dissatisfaction within the existing relationship could have contributed to the man's alleged decision to seek comfort elsewhere.
