Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 caseload nearly breached the 200 mark with 196 cases reported on Wednesday, and cases are expected to continue increasing, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“Based on the latest statistics, the State Health Department (JKNS) predicts that the daily caseload will increase further. The positivity rate is quite high, which is 9.76 per cent of the 2,828 test samples processed on Wednesday.

“The public are advised to continue wearing face masks, especially in congested or enclosed spaces, as well as ensuring one’s personal hygiene at all times.

“Wearing a face mask can not only reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission but also other respiratory illnesses,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Kota Kinabalu topped the caseload with 99 cases, followed by Penampang (24), Tuaran (14), Lahad Datu (12), Papar (11) and Keningau (7).

“Cases in Kota Kinabalu nearly reached three digits, an increase of 39 cases or 65 per cent from the day before.

“Ten districts did not record any infections in the previous 24 hours,” said Masidi.

He said 192 out of 196 cases were category one and two infections, while two cases were recorded in category four and one each in category three and five. 62 per cent were sporadic.

No deaths or new clusters were identified.
