There are two siege warfares raging in the world right now. The notorious one in Gaza is a military blockade of the strip of land in Palestine where the intent is to conquer it by attrition, or by a major assault.
The other is in Malaysia where Sanusi claims political brokers are behind the move to pressure Bersatu members of Parliament to pledge support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim by using similar strategy.
He says, "I think the main reason is the non-existence of allocations to serve their respective constituencies, that's all. Perhaps that is their way to entrap Opposition MPs to support the Prime Minister. You cut off the water supply, electricity supply, the medicines supply, bomb the hospitals.. This is being done so that the people in Gaza surrender...That is the same strategy… If I said it outright, it will sound too harsh but that is the way.
There are three MPs who have surrendered, entrapped by the same strategy," he said.
But the number at the time of writing has risen to four?
Sanusi believes that the siege is orchestrated to entrap the PN lawmakers, who are desperate for funding to support their respective constituency, while ensuring Anwar remains in power.
Ah, the classic political strategy: cut off basic necessities and bomb hospitals to make people surrender. A modern day seige by the Israeli Army.
On the other hand, back in Malaysia using brokers, is a very subtle move to ensure Anwar remains in power.
I mean, who wouldn't want to join a government bench with such persuasive tactics?
It's like a masterclass in diplomacy and charm, really.
What's the implications for democracy
Using such manipulative tactics can erode trust in democratic processes. When political maneuvers involve coercion and deprivation rather than open dialogue, it undermines the principles of a fair and representative democracy. It sets a concerning precedent, suggesting that power can be secured through questionable means rather than through genuine public support and discourse.
What then does it say about the current government under PMX although they have declared that they have no knowledge about the attempt to obtain support through a manner as described by Sanusi?
Well, if the ministers are in the dark about such maneuvers, it could imply a lack of transparency and communication within the government.
In a well-functioning administration, there should be clarity and coordination among its members. The fact that ministers claim ignorance suggests a potential disconnect or a deliberate attempt to distance themselves from controversial tactics.
It raises questions about the overall governance and internal dynamics within PMX's administration.
