Battling personal hardships and financial challenges, Sharan Rani, daughter of a single mother, emerged as the district topper in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class XII examinations in Jalandhar, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
Sharan, a Commerce stream student of Bliss Public School, Santokhpura, secured 487 marks out of 500, registering an impressive 97.40 per cent and securing the top position in the district. She also bagged the 14 position in the state merit list.
Dreaming of becoming a Chartered Accountant, Sharan delivered outstanding subject-wise scores, including 99 marks each in Accountancy, Economics and General English, 98 in Punjabi and 92 in Business Studies. For her, Accountancy has always been more than just a subject.
“Accountancy is my favourite subject and that is why I decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy,” she said.
Behind her success stands the unwavering support and sacrifices of her mother, Shweta Sharma, who single-handedly raised her children after separating from her husband due to his drug addiction. Working as a purchase manager at a local firm near Nehru Garden in Jalandhar, Shweta said her daughter’s achievement has made years of struggle worthwhile.
“I am very happy today as my daughter has become the district topper. I could not continue my studies because I was married at an early age and later got divorced at the age of 26, but I always wanted my daughter to become immensely successful,” she said.
Shweta added that Sharan remained deeply focused on academics throughout the year and stayed away from distractions.
“She never used social media and always remained dedicated towards her studies,” she said.
Apart from academics, Sharan also nurtures a creative side. She is fond of drawing and often spends her free time creating artwork to relax after long study hours.
Sharan, who is the youngest among her three siblings, credited her mother and teachers for her success.
“My teachers were always there whenever I needed help. Their guidance and my mother’s support motivated me to work harder,” she said.
Her teacher, Pratima, described her as a sincere and disciplined student.
“She has always been extremely dedicated towards her studies. We never had to tell her things twice. She remained focused, humble and hardworking throughout,” she said.
Sharan’s achievement stands as an inspiring example of how perseverance and self-discipline can pave the way for extraordinary success.
