ALAS Pilipinas may have gone winless in SEA V.League Leg 1, but Alyssa Solomon’s Best Opposite Spiker award offered a promising sign for the national team.
Philippines wrapped its campaign with a four-set loss to Indonesia, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16, ending its four-bronze-podium streak in the tournament.
The former National University stalwart hit a double-digit mark in the defeat with 13 points.
Solomon’s scoring has been consistent as she opened Alas Pilipinas campaign with 12 points over Vietnam, 29-27, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19.
She then brought a scare to the formidable Thailand squad after chipping in 12 points in a thrilling five-set clash, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-10.
Solomon was a former import of Osaka Marvelous, Japan SV. League team, ending her contract in March 2026.
She initially entered the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Draft but withdrew to focus on the national team led by Alyssa Valdez in the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).
The 6-foot-2 opposite spiker made a strong return in her first AVC appearance, scoring 23 points on 22 attacks and one block.
The Philippines has consistently finished on the podium in the SEA V.League since 2023. While the core of Alas Pilipinas remains largely the same as in previous editions, Japanese head coach Taka Minowa’s system is still relatively new to the team.
The final 14-player roster includes Jia de Guzman, Mars Alba, Bella Belen, Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, Vange Alinsug, Solomon, Erika Santos, Thea Gagate, Fifi Sharma, Dell Palomata, Niña Ytang, Dawn Catindig, and Justine Jazareno.
