MANILA, Philippines – The impact of the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan,’ which brings cool and dry winds, would continue this month as it prevails mostly over Luzon, including Metro Manila, the state-run weather agency said on Wednesday.
Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the agency is not expecting any weather disturbance forming within or outside the country’s area of responsibility.
In particular, she said the northeast monsoon has also been affecting Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain.
Meanwhile, the easterlies – warm, humid winds from the Pacific Ocean – would prevail over Caraga and Davao Region, bringing overcast skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
Dominguez warned that flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rain would be possible in these areas in Mindanao.
The rest of Mindanao would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to the easterlies, according to Pagasa.
